Gillian E. Mackay is the St Mark’s Parish administrator.
A native of England, Michael received his initial musical training as a choral scholar at Hereford Cathedral. Later, he attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying Voice, Theory and Organ. He has a Licenciate in performance from the Royal Academy of Music, is an Associate of the Royal College of Music, and has his teaching diploma from the University of London. Michael completed his B.A. Hons (Music) at Brock University.
Having held several musical and teaching positions in England, Michael immigrated to Canada in 1972 becoming Director of Music at Ridley College in St. Catharines. He held a similar appointment at Albert College in Belleville before returning to Ridley as Coordinator of the Arts in 1990. Michael has initiated and developed choral and instrumental programmes in these schools but has also enriched the musical experiences of his students by conducting choir tours to Europe.
A Past President of Choirs Ontario, Michael now devotes more time to vocal pursuits, and was, until recently, a member of The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and the Elora Festival Singers. He conducts Choral Workshops, Adjudicating at Music Festivals, and as a Travel Consultant for touring music groups.
Michael has held Organist/Choir Director positions at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church, North York; St. Matthews Anglican Church in Islington, and was, in 2009 appointed Director of Music at St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Niagara-on-the-Lake. He now resides in St. David’s, Ontario.
